The tournament joins the US and Aussie Opens in utilizing video review systems.
Replay technology will be launched at Wimbledon this year.
Players will gain the ability to challenge particular decisions made by the official, echoing the system currently in operation at both the US Open and the Australian Open.
The new system will be accessible on the main stadium and Court One throughout the tournament and on the other four show courts when they are hosting singles contests.
This step follows just a season following the AELTC rolled out ELC, which brought an end to the longstanding tradition of line judges.
Scope of Challenges
Competitors will not be permitted to dispute the accuracy of the ELC system, but are allowed to ask for the umpire to review specific situations, including:
- If a tennis ball has double-bounced.
- Whether a ball made contact with an rival's racket or body during play.
- Possible hindrance at the conclusion of a point.
Notably, there will be no limit on the number of challenges a competitor can initiate.
Practical Application
A recent case occurred in a recent tournament recently, where Daniil Medvedev used the review system against Jack Draper.
Draper conceded it was a difficult situation for the official, but believed his rival had "used the regulations effectively."
Official Aurelie Tourte watched a replay and ruled Draper was guilty of hindrance, granting the rally to Medvedev.
Growing Trend
This technology are not new for major tournaments. The system has been in use at the US Open for two years and the Aussie Open this year.
Furthermore, it is increasingly prevalent on the WTA circuit, and by the coming year the ATP circuit will have the system in place at all of its events.
Further Updates
Another innovation at Wimbledon 2025 will be the addition of graphical cues on displays to support the verbal announcements from the ELC system.
This addresses instances where spectators have sometimes been unsure whether a shot was out or in.
In other news, with precisely a century of days remaining until the beginning of the Championships, the AELTC have further revealed an expansion in daily attendance at the qualifiers in the qualifying venue.
