The Iconic Puzzle Game Didn't Win at This Gaming Ceremony — Another Award Type Might Solve This

As any significant awards ceremony approaches, one notices an outcry for introducing fresh award types to honor underappreciated efforts and delight the spirits of enthusiasts dedicated to specific genres.

Another commentator made the case for a horror game category. That would rule. Equally deserving are board games, this being a passionate advocate's mission. However, I must insist when I prioritize just as with other single-minded supporters, I have a cast-iron argument backing this proposal stands as crucial above others. The demand is this: There should be an award type for logic-based games.

Categorizing Game Types

Organizing artistic expressions is not a science; it’s very subjective, and it will always generate discussions and end in fuzzy definitions. This explains why film award organizations don’t do it. Yet it remains an unavoidable compromise within the realm of interactive entertainment, which are so diverse they barely qualify a single creative category.

To recognize the complete range of gaming accomplishments to receive acknowledgment, while allowing diverse titles to have a chance for representation, genre categories are essential.

Current Gaming Award Categories

Leading game ceremonies offer these genre categories for Action-oriented games, Adventure-action titles, Role-Playing, Combat games, Sim/Strategy, and Sports/Racing games. Collectively, these award types actually cover a lot of ground, allowing placement for most games within them.

This doesn't apply to brain-teasing titles. There’s simply nowhere to put them. Consider three of outstanding current releases, each quite distinct: structural challenges of one title, fast-paced pattern recognition from another release, thought-provoking social scenarios of a third title. What category would fit them among existing types? Simply put, no category fits.

Recognition Challenges

Numerous examples exist excellent brain-teasers published annually that have no home in entertainment awards, if they accidentally match classification types such as Mobile Game, Virtual reality experiences, or the intensely contested small studio competitions.

  • A renowned logic title wasn’t nominated completely during that awards season
  • Another creative title missed out in 2019
  • Well-received sorting experience got ignored recently
  • Only a few logic titles scraped into niche award types

Significance of Puzzle Games

These are often small games, but the art in brain-teasers holds tremendous importance. Famous handheld logic titles rank among most engaged experiences worldwide continuing this trend for an extended period.

The famous puzzle experience challenges popular creative games claiming status as most purchased experience; it’s also in the running as greatest title ever. Logic titles represent cornerstones to the art of video games, and engaging with almost every other genre.

Recommendation and Reasoning

Brain-teasers wouldn't encounter that issue. One could readily select five nominees engaging, different, qualified experiences annually without trouble — actually, with challenge, given the need to exclude so many good games out.

To emphasize again, these are games that otherwise have no home in important events. Puzzle game makers operate at the demanding boundary game development, creating some of the purest expressions of gaming itself. Similar to film action specialists, they deserve recognition. Let’s not keep them waiting decades.
